For Those Who Choose Their Own Path- Without Apology

Compassionate, Nonjudgmental Support for Your Best Life

“You’ll change your mind.”

“Your life isn’t complete without a child!”

“Don’t worry, there’s still time.”

“You don’t know love until you’ve had a child!”

“You’ll want kids when you meet the right person!”

Sound familiar? Yeah. I get it.

Hi, I’m Dr. Lauren Bartholomew. I understand how frustrating and hurtful it can be to feel like the people closest to you don’t accept you for who you are, and who “bingo” you for choosing the life you love to live—without children. You may have even started to question yourself: “have I made the right decision? Is there something wrong with me?”

As a childfree-affirming therapist—and as a childfree person, myself—I am here to validate your life choices and to reassure you that no, there is nothing wrong with you for choosing yourself and your happiness first.

When we work together, I’ll provide an affirming, warm, and compassionate space for you to address the stress in your life, find validation, and contemplate the best path for yourself moving forward.

You May Benefit from Childfree-Affirming Therapy If…

You’ve felt invalidated, “bingoed,” or disrespected for your childfree choices.

Perhaps you’ve been told by others that you’ll change your mind, or that it’s selfish to not have children. Maybe your friends and family aren’t willing to understand your perspective, and the social pressure or rejection is too much.

You need a space where you are encouraged to explore your best path

Making the decision to live life childfree can be freeing and also scary. In childfree-affirming therapy, we’ll explore ways for you to live the life you love, and that is most healthy for you—regardless of what others may think or say.

You want a space where you’re understood

As a childfree person, I understand the need to build a life that is self-led and designed with your desires in mind. When we work together, I’ll create a space where you can feel seen, heard, and understood as we address the stresses of your life and help you meet your goals.

My Approach to Therapy for Childfree People

In my work with my clients, I take a non-judgmental, accepting and validating approach to therapy. Childfree people who seek therapy with me are met by a professional who can understand and validate the childfree life, and who won’t minimize or invalidate their choices as they create the best path for themselves.

In therapy, I work from psychodynamic, humanistic, and internal family systems approaches to help you cope with the stresses and challenges of being childfree. Using these approaches, we will help you explore and understand your emotions, discuss tools that help you build confidence in your decisions, and give you the space you need to live your authentic life.
